Our Sunday Visitor publisher Greg Erlandson (follow him on Twitter @GregOSV), in Rome for the Plenary of the Pontifical Council for Social Communication, writes about how Vatican leaders were 'blindsided' by the release of the Pope Francis interview:
Sometimes in the world of Catholic communications, the best trait to have is a good sense of humor, though ire might suffice in a pinch.
While I am at the Plenary of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications with such leaders as Cardinal Thomas Collins of Toronto, Cardinal Oscar Rodriguez Maradiaga of Honduras, Archbishop Diarmuid Martin of Dublin and a host of other Church officials and communications professionals from around the world, America magazine releases a long article based on an interview with Pope Francis. The interview was the result of collaboration between a number of Jesuit entities and conducted by the Jesuit editor of the esteemed Italian publication Civilta Cattolica. (It was released in other languages around the world as well.) Read Greg's post here on the OSV Daily Take blog:

OSV senior correspondent and papal biographer Dr. Matthew Bunson was interviewed by Newsmax, noting that the interview was "classic Francis." Read the article here.
